Professional Drivers Deserve More, Including Better Information
We know truck drivers are a critical part of the economy. Heck, they moved close to $1 trillion in goods last year. Without the trucking industry, a lot of businesses would grind to a halt or at least really slow down.
It takes a lot of work – and a lot of time away from family and friends – to move that much freight.
Unfortunately, it seems like a lot of that time is wasted.
When my partner Dan was working as a warehouse manager, his drivers regularly told him a lot of their extra time and effort was because of things they didn’t know about at their drop-off and pick-up locations. Stuff like tight turns, non-standard height doors, undersized forklift, or getting directions to the front office instead of the actual dock.
He and I started talking about it, and talking with other drivers. We heard from a lot of them that they felt like they were flying blind almost every day, not having good information about where they’re supposed to go or what to expect when they get there. That lack of information takes a huge toll on the whole industry.
Dan and I know a few drivers and think they deserve more than they get.
We started thinking about ways we could help make this one part of their lives easier. Before we dedicated our lives to the effort, we were curious just how big the problem is.
So we sent out a survey to more than 10,000 drivers, and asked if they also felt if they didn’t have important information about their stop. What they said was clear – more than 70% of you lost time and money due to unforeseen circumstances at your drop off and pick up locations.
We Want to Make Trucking Easier, OK?
Our survey showed us just how deep this information gap really was; so we decided to do something about it. We’re building Dock411 to simplify your deliveries. Now, if you want to know what you can expect when you pull in at your next stop, you have somewhere to look.
The goal is to save you some time, and cure some headaches.
The App will be available on the Apple Store and Google Play. We’ll be launching shortly – once the build is finished, and we do a little more testing.
You’ll be hearing more from us shortly, about the details of Dock411.
